A well-loved Catford pub is to be restored and reopened with the help of a £1,650,000 grant from the Mayor.
The Catford Constitutional Club was closed last year after surveys found the building was in a dangerous state of disrepair.
Under new proposals, the council-owned building and surrounding site, including the Thomas’ Lane car park, will be restored and connected to a new public space, Thomas’ Lane Yard.
One of 42 projects to claim £70m of 'Good Growth' funding, the site will be home to a new affordable workspace for SMEs and micro-businesses, while the reinstated pub will be a "cultural and community venue".
Plans for the site
Cllr Joe Dromey, Lewisham Council Cabinet Lead for Employment and Skills said: “The regeneration of Catford offers huge opportunities for our local community.
"It will mean more good quality jobs, and more of the social housing that we need.
“This funding from the Mayor of London will help bring an historic pub and community asset back into action, and provide high quality affordable workspace for local small businesses.
"It’s great news for Catford, and great news for Lewisham.”
The Good Growth Fund is intended to put local communities at the heart of regeneration, enabling Londoners to actively participate in their local community and shape projects.
Residents will be able to contribute to the development of the proposal alongside partners at a series of community engagement events.
Jules Pipe, Deputy Mayor for Planning, Regeneration and Skills, said: “The Mayor and I are committed to doing all we can to support projects which create opportunities to regenerate their local areas.
"This is a great example of how Londoners can take a lead in shaping the future of the capital."
