Lewisham Council have confirmed that the Blackheath fireworks display will go ahead this Saturday (November 2).

The annual fireworks display has been staged for over 30 years and draws thousands of Londoners from across the South East of the city every year.

This year's event had been thrown into doubt after Lewisham Council said it was "under threat due to government funding cuts”.

As News Shopper reported in September, the authority turned to crowdfunding to raise £20,000 for the event.

The council have since confirmed that the popular seasonal event will now take place and offered residents a host of information ahead of Saturday's display as they urged people to continue to donate.

"Blackheath Fireworks will take place on Saturday 2 November. We still need your donations to help us keep the event going.

"This year’s event will include:

  • a funfair from 12 noon to 10pm
  • food and bars from 5pm to 9.45pm
  • a spectacular fireworks display from 8pm which will last around 15 minutes.
  • The display is free to attend and you don't need a ticket.

"Our Crowdfunder campaign also offers exclusive Blackheath Fireworks merchandise. This includes Christmas cards, a tea towel and a tote bag. You can donate to the Crowdfunder up to 12.30pm on Saturday 9 November 2019," a spokesperson for Lewisham Council said.

The event is being staged by a host of organizations and companies in partnership with Lewisham Council, who issued an exhaustive list of the road closures that will be in effect during the event:
