A man has been jailed for 16-weeks for shop thefts in Sidcup and Welling.
On July 31, PC Robinson of Welling Police, was on foot patrol on Bellegrove Road.
He noticed a man being chased by staff of Tesco.
PC Robinson stopped the man, Joshua Chambers, and following a stop and search he was arrested after being found in possession of five boxes of Ferrero Rocher and also for breach of bail.
He was placed before the court and bailed pending sentencing reports being completed.
The same day and just one hour after leaving court he was again stopped by PC Robinson with more chocolate however on this occasion despite him being re-arrested for handling stolen goods, we could not prove where the chocolate had come from so he was released with no further action.
Despite all this on September 9 at Bexley Magistrates Court appeared in order to be sentenced for eleven shop thefts.
Between February 6 and July 31 of this year, Chambers stole nearly £1,000 worth of wine and chocolate from The Co Op at The Oval and the Co Op in Blendon Road.
For all these offences Chambers was sentenced to prison for 16 weeks concurrent.
This was decided due to the offending being so serious because the offences were aggravated at the time by being committed whilst on bail.
