A 45-year-old dad has died after a horrific fire in Orpington which has already left two children motherless.

Tragic Ranjana Gurung, 45, lost her life after a blaze ripped through the family home on Cray Avenue on the night of May 30.

Police have now sadly confirmed that her husband, who has not been named, has also died.

It is not known when he died and we will update the story as soon as we hear back from police.

News Shopper understands the man died "days" after his wife passed away.

Their children, an 11-year-old girl who goes to Perry Hall Primary School, and a 17-year-old boy, escaped with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both have since been discharged from hospital.

A family friend set up a fundraiser, which inspired donations from more than 1,200 people.

It was hoped the fundraiser would raise £15,000 but the target how more than doubled.

St John’s Lynwood Drove Reformed Church in Orpington pledged a £100 donation and businesses like Chanel Sloane Street offered money.

Flowers were left at the home in tribute to Ranjana last week, who is believed to be a cleaner at Princess Royal University Hospital.

Neighbours spoke to News Shopper and described the Gurung family as "lovely".

"Oh gosh, it is just unbelievable," Tony Jones, 79, said.

"The lad (Ranjana’s son) is very polite. I used to meet him every morning as he went off to school when I would take my dog for a walk at quarter to seven.

"He is a sixth former."

The family is believed to be from Nepal and led a quiet life.

Pat, 85, who lives a few doors down, said: "I knew her just as a friend and neighbour. She has two lovely kids and her husband is very quiet.

"I didn’t know them very much but she was very friendly and nice.

"The kids were always polite when you spoke to them. If I was looking out the window they would always smile when walking past - they were those sort of children."

Another neighbour, who didn’t want to be named, didn’t know the family but remembered being woken up by the fire, which firefighters were called to at 11.15pm.

"I didn’t hear anything until my daughter woke me up at 11," the woman said. "We came outside and saw all the fire engines and police.

"It was just horrible."

Part of the ground floor, first floor and staircase of the property were destroyed by flames.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is being conducted by the South Area Command Unit and the LFB.

UPDATE: 

A police statement read: "A 45-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination held on Thursday, 30 May gave the preliminary cause of death as burns and inhalation of fire fumes. 

"A 45-year-man was taken to, where he sadly died on Sunday, 2 June.

"A post-mortem examination will take place on Thursday, 6 June."
