Plans for long-awaited London Resort theme park have taken a step forward as ITV Studios have signed a landmark deal with the LRCH.

According to the London Resort Holding Company, this new partnership will see iconic ITV content and characters "transformed into unique attractions in what will be one of the largest, immersive experience resorts in the world".

However, the Swanscombe-based theme park is not expected to be completed until 2024.

The London Resort is set to take over more than 535 acres of land north of Dartford for their two parks with 200 acres being dedicated solely to attractions.

Hotel building are also planned to provide close to 3,500 rooms for tired travellers.

Executive Vice-President of Kids Content and Distribution at ITV Studios, Steve Green said: "We are thrilled to be on board with this world class project, which will offer fans a whole new way to experience our brand.

"ITV Studios creates more than TV, building global franchises loved by generations of families, and we look forward to seeing one of our biggest global brands brought to life on such a grand scale right here in the UK."

However, when asked for further information, a spokeswoman for ITV confirmed that there will be no X Factor or Coronation Street themed attractions.

Adding to this announcement, Chairman of the LRCH, Steve Norris said: "To create a world class destination, you have to work with world class partners and ITV Studios ticks every box.

"Globally recognised for its rich heritage of creating some of the most popular and entertaining content on the small screen, ITV has properties which have never been transformed into truly unique experiences.

"That’s the vision and I’m delighted to welcome them on board for what promises to be an epic journey."

The entire London Resort project is expected to create close to 30,000 jobs once finished.

The project has also faced backlash from concerned residents in the past who fear the theme park would become a '"tacky eyesore".

A petition set up to 'Save Swanscombe Marshes' garnered hundreds of signatures online but failed to stop the proposals being approved.
