Two New Eltham kids have managed to raise more than £400 to fund life-saving medical equipment at their primary school.

Siblings Martha and Samuel Browne, aged five and eight respectively, attend Dulverton Primary which recently kicked off a fundraising appeal to help get an emergency defibrillator installed at the school.

Martha donated almost eight inches of her hair during a sponsored hair cut with the money going toward the school while also giving the hair to The Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides wigs to children who lose their hair during cancer treatment.

Samuel swam 40 lengths of a 25m pool for his part in the fundraiser.

Mum Laura said she was keen to get the pair involved after hearing the charity running the appeal was set up by an old school acquaintance.

"Someone I used to go to school with had a cardiac arrest and she only survived because someone used a defibrillator on her.

"Now she’s trying to get all schools in the area to raise money so they can have defibrillators there as well.

"Once I heard that, I just thought that I really wanted to get the kids involved," said Laura.

The charity behind Dulverton Primary's appeal and many others across south-east London is The Carly Trust, a group set up with the intention of helping schools install defib units and provide them with vital first-aid training in case of emergencies.
