Abbey Wood residents are to expect disruption to their usual travel routine as roadworks will see Gayton Road closed for six weeks.
Works on the road located next to the railway station are due to start on April 1 as the council aims to reconstruct the carriageway between the Abbey Arms pub and Florence Road junction with Fendyke Road.

Shops in Wilton Road will be open as usual with access will be maintained to these businesses and to Abbey Wood Station and Gayton Road car park throughout the works.
Access to Florence Road will be available via Abbey Road, Fossington Road, Fendyke Road and a fully signed diversion route is expected to be in place.
Wilton Road will become two-way for the duration of the Gayton Road closure and this will mean that two parking bays will need to be suspended.

According to Bexley Council, the works are being carried out in partnership with Greenwich council to "ensure the local community can benefit from the opening of Elizabeth line services at Abbey Wood."
