Running club Petts Wood Runners has won the 2018/19 Kent Fitness League (KFL) cross-country series with a race to spare.
The league, founded in the late 1980s, now comprises of 18 clubs running seven races throughout the winter months, and for the first time in its history PWR has dominated.
From Oxleas Wood in Eltham right down to Betteshanger Park in Deal, PWR has been the team to beat this season.
Of the six races so far the women have only been beaten once, as have the men, and they’ve only once failed to claim the combined team win having been pipped at Minnis Bay by Sevenoaks AC.
Despite having already done enough to claim the trophy this season, PWR will be looking to reassert its dominance in the final race of the season at Blean Woods in Canterbury on February 3.
While the series is very much a team event with every runner potentially contributing, there have also been some notable individual PWR successes.
Geraldine ‘Machine’ Schaer has been crowned the F50 champion in the ladies' competition and Simon Fox has secured individual second place in the men’s.
Petts Wood Runners has grown in recent years and now has over 550 members of all abilities.
Anyone can turn up and run on a Tuesday night at Willett Rec at 7.55pm.
If you don’t have the confidence for that, there’s a beginners' course starting on March 2, 9-10am, also in Willett Rec. The course will run for eight weeks and is free.
