This week we return to running profiles of News Shopper Camera Club members to provide an insight into their photography and to show off some of their best work.

We continue with Paul Spring from Blackfen.

Who or what inspired you to take up photography?

I can’t really remember where, but somewhere like General Wolfe Statue in Greenwich Park, a touristy place, people taking photos of the view over London and thought yeah I'd like to get back into this.

How long have you been taking pictures for?

I started when I was about 17, then stopped after about five years, then restarted about four years ago when I got my first DSLR.

What is your specialty or what you do enjoy photographing the most, and why?

I do love night-time or low-light photography, the challenge to get the light or the image right as you see it or try to enhance it a bit. Also, I do like comic cons. I’ve got some great photos of cosplay.

What’s the story behind your favourite photo?

My favourite is the banded demoiselle. These fly and dart about all over the place and was quite hard to photograph. I was following one and it just settled on a thick strand of grass. I just snapped straight away and got the image, very happy.

What equipment do you use?

My very first camera was a Zenith, then a Pentax. My first DSLR was Nikon D3200 which I still use sometimes, and my currant camera is a Nikon D7200.

Do you have any advice for budding photographers?

Just snap away and carry on or until you find what you want to shoot.

Is there anything you’ve not photographed yet which you’d love to capture one day?

Top of Snowdonia, Kelpies in Glasgow, Venice, Milky Way, Mount Rushmore - the list is quite long so I'll stop here.
