A charity has been given the green light to turn empty offices in Sidcup High Street into a community space.
Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL) – which was founded in 1993 after Greenwich Council changed how it looked after leisure centres – has been given the go-ahead this week to renovate part of the building occupied by Better Gym.
The charity, which “exists to make community services and spaces better for everyone”, plans a new office along with the activity studio.
According to planning documents, the new office is vital for GLL to continue its work across the country.
“The first floor at the Better Gym has remained unused for a minimum of 10 years. GLL wish to utilise this space providing office accommodation for between 50 to 60 staff,” planning documents explain.
“GLL staff support communities though spending within the high streets they work.”
The studio will be available for schools, health and activity classes and community groups.
Planners at the council approved the plans with conditions.
A GLL spokesperson said:“Subject to approval from the landlord, we are currently exploring opportunities to extend the existing Better Gym Sidcup.
“We have no further details at this point.”
