AN AWARDS scheme has been launched by police and a council to reduce alcohol-related disorder.
The scheme, called Greenwich Best Bar None, aims to create a safer and more attractive environment for visitors.
It is being piloted in Woolwich town centre and offers licensees the chance to prove they run safe, well-managed establishments to a high standard of professional customer care.
Prevention of crime, disorder and nuisance will be assessed along with public safety before approving the premises to display the Best Bar None logo.
Greenwich Council cabinet member for neighbourhood services Councillor Maureen O'Mara said: "Best Bar None is a demonstration of our commitment to work in partnership with the police and licensees in making sure Woolwich is seen as a safe and attractive place in which to enjoy a night out."
Licensed premises must apply for accreditation for the first round of judging by this Friday.
