A young woman was left “badly shaken” after being racially abused on a train yesterday evening (June 20).
The 23-year-old victim was on the 7.15pm DLR train from Canary Wharf to Lewisham when a man began hurling abuse at fellow passengers.
The woman’s mum told News Shopper: “He was sitting talking to his girlfriend as normal, but every time a passenger got on he would stop and abuse them.
“He told one lady she needed three hours on a treadmill.”
The abuse became so relentless that the 23-year-old Lewisham woman "politely" confronted the man to explain that people just wanted to get home after work.
The victim's mum claimed the man, described as black, 5ft 7ins, and wearing a baseball cap, then started threatening her daughter.
“He started calling her a white sket and a white cracker,” the mum claimed. “He said he was going to stab her.
“She lost count how many times he called her white and threatened to stab her.
“He followed her off the train in Lewisham, shouting in her face, and said he was going to stab her.”
The daughter returned home safely and reported it to police.
Her mum added: “She is badly shaken and has to do the same journey again tonight.
"We now want to find witnesses, the train was packed at the time."
News Shopper has contacted British Transport Police and Met Police for further information.
