With the perennial debate about whether Bromley is in Kent or London never going away, we decided to ask you for your current views.
Some people say it’s inside the M25 and a Greater London borough so it’s in London while others say that it has a Kent postal address so it’s in Kent.
Bromley is historically a market town, and used to be an ancient parish in the county of Kent.
But its population grew and became a significant commercial district outside of central London, and then formed part of Greater London in 1965.
So, what did the Shopper lot think?
We asked you in a Facebook poll what you thought and the results were 63 per cent believe Bromley is in Kent and 37 per cent think it is in London.
Pippa O'Dwyer said: “It was in Kent when I went to school there. Still think of it as Kent!!”
Gary Bragg said: “At the end of the day ... if you pay your council tax to a London borough, irrespective to what your address says, you live in London.”
Sarah Jerrari: “The clue is in the title: London Borough of Bromley. It used to be in Kent (so did Lewisham once upon a time). It became part of London in 1965.”
Laurie Bunting: “I've always considered it London, it's 'the London borough of Bromley' and has a 020 dialling code, but I lived in Downham which is that odd area where it's a BR postcode but is technically under Lewisham which is definitely not Kent.... just to confuse things even more lol.”
Tricia Anne Maguire said: “It has always been in the County of Kent and always will be... The M25 was built later so can't possibly change the boundaries of the County of Kent.”
Dan Lee said: “The SE postcodes are London and the BR, TN postcodes are Kent.”
Michelle Doggett: “I live Orpington and that it’s in Kent even thou I have bromley council! Mind boggles!!”
So what do you think? Should the largest London borough be considered to be in Kent or London? Add your comments below.
