An unofficial Tube map has been produced by a Cambridge Masters student to show what the system could look like in 2040.

With so many changes being made to the Underground system it can be hard to keep track but one man has created the Unofficial Tube Map.

Alastair Carr, 21, an economics Masters student at Cambridge University has designed the map that includes eight major changes that have been proposed.

It shows how the map is likely to change and grow with the Crossrail developments as well as proposed extensions to the Bakerloo Line and Northern line route to Battersea.

Alastair said: "The Tube Map is iconic, but it's always evolving, and it's cool to show people what the evolution might be.

"I saw it as a fun challenge: for routes like Crossrail and Crossrail 2 that intersect with so many other lines, could I try to incorporate them into the map without it looking too confusing or crowded? I had no experience in graphic design, so had a lot of fun learning about how the Tube Map is put together digitally."

The extensions are to ease congestion but also to provide more services to improve transport connections in south east London.

These changes are rumoured to begin between now and 2023 and services should be running by 2028.

Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London said: “Crossrail 2 is essential for the future prosperity of London and the south-east, so I’m pleased that the Transport Secretary and I have reached an agreement to take this vital project forward.”
