A REGIMENT has left the barracks which has been its home for 291 years.
The 16th Regiment of the Royal Artillery left Woolwich Barracks at Artillery Place, Woolwich, on July 25.
It was the last Royal Artillery regiment in Woolwich to leave the barracks, where it had been based since 1716.
The occasion was marked by a service in the parade square where the regiment's vehicles and weapons paraded past.
As soldiers gave a farewell salute, a lone bugler played the Last Post.
The regiment has around 600 troops, some of whom are currently serving in Iraq, the Falklands and Afghanistan.
Lieutenant Alexix Wilcox said: "It's a fantastic mess and a fantastic camp.
"The history of the regiment in Woolwich is huge and it's a real shame we have to leave."
The regiment will now move to a new home in North Luffenham, near Leicester.
