There is always a new internet trend more stupid than the last, and this time is no different - washing tablets.

The ‘Tide Pod Challenge’ is where idiots consume as many of the washing tablets as possible, film it and then upload it onto either Youtube or Facebook to nominate someone else.

The challenge started in the US and Tide was chosen specifically for the vivid blue and orange colours.

Over the last couple of years we have seen challenges such as eating a large amount of cinnamon, ‘neknomination’ where people ended up downing anything from a litre of whisky to straight bleach and now this.

Tide clearly states that ingesting this product is dangerous.

It recently set up a page on its website specifically to inform people of the horrors that can come from ingesting something that is used to clean dirty clothes. https://tide.com/en-us/safety

Proctor and Gamble manufacture the washing tablets and told us that after hearing about this challenge, it is now working with leading social media networks to remove content that encourages harmful behaviour.

A spokeswoman from Proctor and Gamble said: “Nothing is more important to us than the safety of people who use our products. We are deeply concerned about the intentional and improper use of liquid laundry pacs by young people engaging in intentional self-harm challenges.”

As with all these dumb challenges, Tide-related posts and videos have been going viral on social media.

Parents are being warned to be careful with the household items that could be used in such stunts, keeping them closed and away from children.
