Many of us spend the week cooped up indoors so the weekends are a good time to get out the house and enjoy some fresh air.
Here are some of the best walks in south London that will get you some exercise and also give you some great sights across the area.
Erith to Bostall Wood
This 3.4-mile walk gives you panoramic views of the Thames estuary at Erith before heading up to higher climes at Bostall Woods and London’s hidden heathland.
Charlton Park to Bostall Woods
On this 3.6-mile walk you can see the 18th century Royal Artillery barracks and stunning views towards the North Downs. One branch of this section goes from Plumstead Common to Oxleas Wood.
Mottingham to Beckenham Place Park
This is a great 4.6-mile walk for wildlife lovers and artists, watch the changing seasons of the beautiful surroundings.
Beckenham Place Park to Crystal Palace
This 3.9-mile stretch runs from Beckenham Place Park to Crystal Palace and is steeped in heritage with a Victorian dinosaur park and a rather unusual Edward VIII pillar box at Stumps Hill.
Crystal Palace to Nunhead Cemetery
From Crystal Palace Park to Nunhead Cemetery, with an option to divert to Dulwich Park, this is a comparatively new 5.4-mile section of TfL's Green Chain Walk.
Nunhead Cemetery Tour
One of the most beautiful and serene cemeteries in south London, Nunhead Cemetery has some cracking views that can’t be replicated anywhere else. The sheer vastness of it allows for a good 1.5 to 2-hour walk inside its borders. FONC (Friends of Nunhead Cemetery) offers some guided tours that are free to join.
