Opposition is mounting against plans to open a new Tesco in Beckenham.
The Tesco would replace the Chinese Garage in Stone Park Avenue, Beckenham.
Planning has already been granted to turn the site in to two retail units.
A new application has been made to remove conditions relating to opening times which would enable Tesco to move in.
Robert Webster, 63 of Walled Garden Close, Beckenham, said: “The issue of Tesco opening in the site presently occupied by the Chinese Garage has generated a lot of discussion within the local community.
“I have heard no favourable comments concerning this.”
Residents are worried how the new Tesco might affect nearby shops and cafes.
Roger Wooster, 76, of Turners Meadow Way, Beckenham said: “I have been using Kelsey Park for dog walking during the last 20 years and have been using the cafes and shops there.
“I have quite a few friends who live locally and we meet up there for coffee every day.”
“I feel that a Tesco (of any size) would be detrimental to the local cafes and small shops that provide excellent products for all the visitors to that area,” he said.
Pamela Jenkins of Hayes Way, Beckenham said: “I object very strongly to the proposed siting of a Tesco store at the Chinese Garage.
“It will have a devastating impact on the local parade of shops which serves the local community very well.”
Another issue is the increase in traffic.
Ms Jenkins said: “The roundabout is extremely busy serving 5 roads and as there are no formal zebra crossings, it is very dangerous.
“There are a number of flats housing the elderly nearby and this must be a tremendous concern to them.
“The increase in traffic at all times with late deliveries and customers cars to the proposed Tesco will cause additional noise and traffic pollution.”

A spokesperson from Tesco said: “We are keen to open a store and serve customers in Beckenham and the site owner is awaiting a decision from the local planning committee.
“When opening new stores, we always look to offer additional services to shoppers and complement the existing businesses in the local area.”
