Twelve parks in Greenwich have been officially recognised as some of the best in the world.
The international Green Flag Award Scheme, running for at least three decades, highlights public parks that have the highest environmental standards, beautifully maintained, and has excellent visitor facilities.
The parks in Greenwich include: Avery Hill Park, Blackheath, Charlton Park, Eaglesfield Park, East Greenwich Pleasaunce, Eltham Parks North and South, Fairy Hill Park, Horn Park, Maryon Park, Sutcliffe Park, The Tarn, and Well Hall Pleasaunce.
Local community groups were also recognised, such as the Friends of Plumstead Common and Twinkle Park Trust who were awarded a community green flag.
Councillor Jackie Smith, cabinet member for community safety and environment, said: “These awards celebrate the hard work of Friends groups who have worked hand-in-hand with us to ensure that these unique parks offer something truly special for families, residents and visitors.
“We believe that these magnificent green spaces reflect the character of Royal Greenwich and the dedication of residents working with us to protect these assets for the benefit of future generations.
“I am also proud that we are delivering on our pledge made in our Parks and Open Spaces Strategy to achieve 12 Green Flag sites every year.”
