Have you ever craved a doughnut but couldn’t find one that was certifiably vegan and gluten free?
Thankfully an entrepreneurial baker from Woolwich has got you covered with the first ever dedicated gluten free and vegan doughnut bakery.
Ryan Panchoo is the owner of the doughnut bakery Borough 22, which he started because he was tired of being unable to find doughnuts for his family.
He said: “I predominantly started the business for my children and my wife because they have multiple allergies but we couldn’t find anything that was already in the marketplace that was either any good or free from multiple allergens.
“I wanted a product that would stand alone with its standard doughnut counterpart but just happened to be gluten free and vegan.
“We hand mix, oven bake and hand glaze our doughnuts and they’re made without the use of any of the top 14 food allergens so they can be accessible for everyone.
“The business started in October 2014 has really taken off. We are stocked in Selfridges Food Hall and many other locations across London.”
Borough 22 has been awarded for its innovation with a semi-finalist place in the intu and Virgin StartUp’s Foodpreneur 2017.
He will now be selling his wares at a popup stall at intu Lakeside shopping centre in Sussex, with a finalist being selected in a week’s time.
Mei Shui, managing director of Virgin StartUp, said: “The food start-up scene has continued to go from strength to strength in the UK and we’re proud to be working with intu to help Ryan’s business get its products in front of thousands of new customers.
“Not only will the pop-up stalls bring new tastes to thousands of people but they will also inspire many to see that it’s possible to turn your business ideas into a reality.”
