When it's producing names like these, it's hard to argue with the results.
- Gary Oldman
Where to start with the Hollywood career of Gary Oldman? Dracula in Bram Stoker's Dracula, Lee Harvey Oswald in JFK, Sirius Black in the Harry Potter franchise, Commissioner Gordon in the Dark Knight Trilogy. That’s not even touching The Fifth Element, The Contender, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and so many more. Now he’s about to play Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour later this year. Not bad for a man who studied in Sidcup.
- Tom Baker
Tom Baker was one of the most beloved and long-running Doctors in the Doctor Who franchise, and later the voice of Little Britain. Before he became an actor he studied to become a monk, then joined the Army, then the Merchant Navy, before finally picking up acting at Rose Bruford College in Sidcup in 1956.
- Sam Palladio
Adopting a convincing southern American accent for a major US TV series would be intimidating for some, but not if you’ve studied in Sidcup. Kent-born actor Sam Palladio made his name in the Golden Globe-nominated ABC musical drama Nashville where he stars as Gunnar Scott.
- Pam St, Clement
The Eastenders star spent nearly 26 years playing the matriarch Pat Butcher, but it was in Sidcup where she learned her craft. She featured regularly in the popular soap opera from 1986 until 2012, with a guest appearance in 2016.
- Hayley Squires
Born in Forest Hill and studied at Rose Bruford College, graduating in 2010, Hayley Squires is most recognised for her role as Katie in I, Daniel Blake. She was nominated for a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress and the film won Best Film at Cannes Film Festival and Best British Film at the 2017 BAFTAs.
- Shazia Mirza
While Shazia Mirza was a science teacher once upon a time, where she taught rapper Dizzee Rascal, but eventually gave up the teaching lifestyle to become a comedian. While she studied biochemistry in Manchester, it was in Sidcup that she studied acting. Now she’s a regular on TV panel shows when not making audiences collapse with laughter at her stand-up.
