AFRICA has been on the minds of children at an infant school.

A group of six and seven-year-olds at East Wickham Infant School, Wickham Street, Welling, were inspired by former pupil Philip Cole, who now works at a mission in Zambia.

The dozen children have been working with teachers Carolann Kelly and Rose Boyle and writing about the Musenga Mission near Chingola.

Youngsters gave a presentation showing their to the rest of the school at an assembly, which was attended by Mr Cole's parents, who still live locally.

The pupils' work has inspired the rest of the school to collect donations of unwanted clothes, soft toys and school equipment to send to the mission.

The mission cares for many orphaned children.
