A PILOT has spoken about the challenges of flying people - on top of a plane that is.

Vic Norman is a pilot with Team Guinot, made up of four brave wing walkers who fearlessly climb upon the wing to perform their own kind of aerobatics.

Carrying a girl on top of the plane creates a big air break on top of the aeroplane, says Mr Norman.

This means if the planes come slightly out of formation, it is hard to catch up because of the resistance, he says.

The Stearman biplanes travel at up to 155mph at some points in the show - making it very hard for the girls to wave at the crowds.

But low-level flying at between 80mph and 100mph is perfect for the girls to perform they daring moves, including handstands and ballet-like poses on top of the wing.

Mr Norman, 60, has been flying since he was 17 and has 1,500 displays under his belt.

The team has four planes, complete with accompanying wing walkers, who all display at big shows.

Biggin Hill International Air Fair is a favourite of the team, says Mr Norman.

He said: "This is a really famous airfield and it is a special place.

"You always get a brilliant crowd here.

"The weather is so nice the people are pouring in."
