The session will look at the top trends for this year, special planning and typical layouts, selecting furniture, art accessories and typical furniture layouts.

Here, Marta shares six top tips for interior design trends in 2016.

Colour-wise

People are feeling more and more adventurous with colour. We are seeing a definite surge in the use of strong and playful colours. Instead of simply just using greys, people are starting to venture into more variations of colour and more distinguished shades.

Remaining still is the use of vibrant jewel tones. The use of deep, dark aubergine, bold greens alongside a touch of rich colours such as canary yellow, lilac and purple tones are delivering a super chic style.

Often, when shifting to more calming atmospheres in rooms such as bedrooms, alabaster is used to represent mindfulness and well-being, complimented by the use of milky blues, shades of lavender and also cream.

Natural Surfaces

Nature is making its way into the home, creating an emphasis on environment and nature in unusual spaces such as bathrooms and kitchens. Last year, faux marble was everywhere and 2016 promises a more trop l'oeil of natural facades. Materials like wood, cork coatings, stone, brick and raw concrete add extra attention to gritty imperfection.

Retro Geometrics

All hail 2015: the year of the 1970s revival! 2015 saw 70s patterns, layered rugs and blond woods as far as the eye could see. Fortunately, they’re not going anywhere but this year, we’ll see less 70s orange kitchen and more oriental-inspired hotel room.

Home of Spa

The biggest change however, is in the home environment, with the air of spa that has been gained in the bathroom with green rain shower walls. It will not be uncommon to see benches, seats and loungers inside bathrooms in 2016, as the idea of a bathroom is no longer purely to serve as a function, but to be transformed into a relaxation area.

Functionalism of Accessories

Another major change in the visuals of interior homes is the presence of functional decorative objects. In 2016, we will soon find that there is no room for useless items that create clutter.

The Arrangement of Space

The minimalistic and clever usage and arrangement of spaces is also extremely important for the dynamic lifestyle of today. The kitchen, for example, can be completely hidden to open additional space for entertainment, leaving its ability to pop-out when needed.  In 2016 we are moving towards a minimalistic model that inhabits a quiet aesthetic that allows us to escape the rush of the city. Playing with optical illusions in environments such as kitchens and bathrooms through the use of wallpapers – leaving everything the ability to gain space and add charm.
