The father of a murdered teenager from Deptford said he is ‘devastated’ after his son was stabbed to death in Birmingham.

Jamar Walker, 15, died from a stab wound to the leg following a “fracas” with another group on Sunday (December 20).

Emergency services were called to Raglan Road, in the Smethwick area of Birmingham, around 2.20am.

They found Jamar suffering from a stab wound to his upper leg, and another 17-year-old with a stab wound to the stomach.

The 17-year-old was treated for minor injuries and released.

Following his death his father, Mark, told The Londoner he had sent his son away to avoid gangs in south London, fearing he may have fallen in with the wrong crowd.

He the newspaper: “He was such a good child. He was sent to Birmingham to live with relatives because I felt it was safer for him. But it wasn’t.

"I sent my son away from the capital to protect him from gangs.

“I haven’t been able to sleep. I’m completely devastated.”

His father sent him to the West Midlands earlier this year.

Jamar's friends have denied the youngster, who attended Addey and Stanhope school in New Cross Road, before being excluded late last year, was not involved with gangs.

In the wake of his death it is thought his father is travelling up to the city. 

The family of the knifed teen also paid tribute to ‘kind-hearted’ Jamar.

In statement they said: “Jamar was a typical teenage boy, mischievous and full of fun but very loving.

“He was always smiling and his loss has devastated all of us.

“We would ask people not to judge why Jamar was out late at night. No-one deserves to have their life taken from them, especially at such an early age.

“We would ask we are left to deal with our pain.”

In the wake of his death, a memorial page has been set up on Facebook entitled ‘Rest in Peace Jamar Walker’.

Friends have expressed their sadness on social media, with the 17-year-old who is thought to have been stabbed, posting online: “Never thought I’d say this.

"Rest in paradise Jamar walker (jayjay) fam words don't express how I’m feeling right now.

“I’m missing you like mad fam and till the day my heart stops I will never forget you.

“When they told me u never made it ii was in that hospital bed crying my eyes out. I caught a stab in my belly but I’m nice just wish you was here RIP JAYJAY.”

Rachel Lorenzo posted: “RIP JAMAR WALKER (jayjay) I can't even believe it the other day we were bussing joke and now you're gone.

“Seriously you were the reason behind my smile half the time.

“Too young, too much potential. Honestly rest in perfect paradise beautiful, justice will prevail I promise.”

Detective Inspector Warren Hines from Force CID said police were investigating the incident, and urged anyone with information to come forward.

He said: “It is believed there was some sort of fracas in the street which led to one teenager tragically losing his life and another being injured.

“Enquiries are on-going, we are looking at CCTV and forensic investigations are taking place at the scene.”
