Staff and pupils of St John's CE Primary School, Penge, were delighted to receive a visit from Geoffrey Ellerby who, as Chief Education Officer for the London Borough of Bromley, had performed the ceremonial opening of our school building on October 27, 1978.
In fact, ours was the only school that Mr Ellerby opened and this was his first return visit.
He was very complimentary about the warm, welcoming atmosphere in the school and about the excellent learning and behaviour that he observed.
Mr Ellerby was accompanied by St John’s former, long serving, headteacher Christopher Town who has taken a great interest in the school since his retirement.
It was especially nice to hear Mr Town’s very positive impressions of the school today.
Mr Ellerby will be very welcome if he decides to visit us again but, hopefully, will not leave it quite so long next time.
