Things heated up for Lewisham and Greenwich Fire Cadets at their official passing out ceremony.

For the very first time the boroughs of Lewisham and Greenwich had the honour of hosting the Fire Cadets, aged 14 to 17.

The youngsters completed their BTEC course at Lee Green Fire Station, along Eltham Road, on Wednesday and Thursday (August 12 -13).

Dignitaries including Commissioner Ron Dobson, mayor of Lewisham Steve Bullock, deputy mayor of Greenwich Olu Babatola and Greenwich MP Matthew Pennycook attended the ceremony.

Dressed in full uniform, the cadets completed a set of drills included rescues, hose work, using a ladder and for the first time using an aerial ladder platform – a fire engine which extends 32 metres high.

MORE TOP STORIES Fire Cadet Coordinator Stevie Clifford-Tucker, 22, who was himself a Fire Cadet at 16, said: “It has been a fantastic experience to work with the young people and adult volunteers from Lewisham and Greenwich.

“I am in such a fortunate position knowing everyone’s story and background. I make sure I use that knowledge to help show them the path and the right direction. I have a real passion and drive to use this course to motivate others.”

Alongside key skills, the cadets took part in numerous community and fundraising activities, which all went towards their BTEC Level 2 qualification in the Fire and Rescue Service in the Community.
