An amateur football team in Bromley is appealing for equipment after theirs was stolen in two separate incidents.
The Bromley R and Bs team, whose players have mental health issues, play every Friday at Norman Park leaving their sports gear locked up.
But on two separate occasions they’ve turned up to find the lock broken and their footballs and goals stolen.
Team captain Roy Batten, 42, said: “They’ve got changing rooms at Norman Park so they must have used bolt cutters because they got through the lock and have taken all our stuff.
“One of our members was running round the park and he noticed the door was open, so he investigated and saw that part of the goals had gone and a few footballs.
“The goals are quite big about six foot tall, they’re proper sized and made of plastic which makes it even more unusual, if it was metal I could understand why people would steal it.”
The team, who have been playing for 15 years, improvised some goals with jumpers.
But when they returned a few weeks later the thief had struck again.
They stole three new footballs which were donated - although left new kit which was part of the donation.
MORE TOP STORIES Mr Batten, from near Southborough Lane in Bickley, said: “We went down and as we were walking we noticed the door was open wide and all our stuff had gone. Five footballs and both goals, they didn’t take the kit thankfully.
“One of the players brought a football but it wasn’t as good, we got some flags and used them as goalposts.
“We think it’s the same people, we’ve got no idea why someone is targeting us. We’re pretty pissed off, a couple of swear words were going round.
“We haven’t been able to replace any of the stuff, when we first set up the guy who runs it managed to get some goals; we’ve had them for 10 years.
“Hopefully they won’t break in again, we’ve moved some of the stuff we used to store there.”
A spokesman for the Met Police confirmed they were called to reports of sport equipment stolen from the park. No arrests have been made.
Mr Batten said they would be grateful if anyone had some goals, footballs or equipment they could donate, or if anyone wanted to join the team then turn up any Friday between 12-2pm.
