A high octane cycling series – that has been a hit across the world – is heading to the UK for the first time, with its track in Greenwich.
The Red Hook Criterium makes its debut at Greenwich Peninsula on Saturday, July 11, and is open to everyone from pro road racers to commuters and weekend cyclists.
The adrenaline-fuelled races take place in technical, street tracks on brakeless, gearless bikes that are more used to a velodromes.
That makes it a quite a spectacle – and it’s free to watch, with one of the few rules for spectators being ‘enter at your own risk’. The event starts at 1pm with feature races beginning around 6pm.
The Red Hook’s Criterium’s initial 200 men’s spots sold out in 10 minutes, with 25 countries represented and more than 50 UK riders.
Founder and series director David Trimble said: “Expanding the Red Hook Criterium Championship Series to London – a world-class cycling city – is a dream come true.”
“We are thrilled to be welcomed to the Greenwich Peninsula to host the first Red Hook Crit London in what we hope to become a permanent addition to the Championship Series."
