The worst DIY home improvement disasters – from flocked wallpaper to pebbledash – have been revealed by new research.
Barclays Mortgages Home Improvement Report 2015 found that more than half of the country’s homeowners (53 per cent) would rather improve than move.
Homeowners believe they have added a collective £164 billion to their properties through home improvements too since moving in to their current home.
At the same time, they listed their top 10 worst DIY home improvements:
- Avocado coloured bathroom suites
- Woodchip wallpaper
- Stone cladding
- Flocked wallpaper
- Artex ceilings
- Carpets in bathrooms
- Pebbledash
- Strip lighting
- Linoleum
- Synthetic wood
On the flip side, the most desirable improvement is a designer kitchen, with 42 per cent citing it as their biggest ‘want’. Other dreams are an en-suite (38 per cent), a swimming pool (29 per cent) and a games room (26 per cent).
