A brave Sainsbury's worker risked their life to drive a lorry away from the one in flames parked next to it, during yesterday's dramatic Charlton fire (May 19).
70 firefighters battled a huge fire in Charlton that was seen across London.
The fire started at Sainsbury's distribution warehouse in Lombard Wall.
London Fire Brigade, who were called at 4.08pm, advised residents and businesses near the blaze not to open their windows.
People in nearby buildings were evacuated and the London Ambulance Service (LAS) treated four people at the scene for smoke inhalation.
A London Fire Brigade spokesman at the scene said the fire started in one of the lorries but the cause was not yet known.
He added: "Six lorries were completely destroyed by the fire and 10 per cent of the warehouse has been destroyed.
"Sainsbury's were very quick to be evacuated from the area and there were no casualties.
"One of our first concerns was City Airport and the wind direction which could have affected members of the public."
Kim Doolan, 57, of Charlton Lane said: "I was just taking the dog out when I saw smoke coming over the trees.
"We've felt seven explosions since, I thought they came from the industrial estate."
Fire crews from Greenwich, East Greenwich, New Cross, Deptford, Plumstead, Lea Green, Poplar and Shadwell tackled the blaze.
Station Manager Bruce Grain at the scene, said: "During its early stages this was a very intense fire.
"Crews wearing breathing apparatus attacked it extremely quickly and thanks to their efforts the fire was prevented from spreading any further into the warehouse and causing even more damage.
"The distribution centre was fitted with a sprinkler system which activated and this also helped reduce the impact of the blaze on the main building."
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
