Editor Andrew Parkes is a man with many thoughts, here are just five he’s had this week.
1. My car has now done 132,000 miles and is still going strong, what’s more, there’s isn’t a spot of rust on it. Twenty years ago I was forever pushing filler into rust holes in a host of old jalopies. But, it’s just had its ninth set of new tyres. So car makers have clearly cured the rust issues, but developed tyres that wear out much faster – I suppose they were always going to find a way of keeping the cash coming in.
2. And talking of spare tyres, did you see the pictures of 65-stone Carl Thompson, Britain’s fattest man? He cannot leave his bedroom and has to eat lying down. Because of this, his carers have to deliver his food to him – which is all fast food junk. So, who’s to blame for his inevitable early death, Carl or his so-called “carers”?
3. It’s possible that Paul McCartney won’t be reading my 5 Thoughts this week, but if you do happen to know the ex-Beatle perhaps you could pass a message on for me. Please stop singing, you can’t hack it any more. It would be much better to leave your fans with good memories than keep going on stage and slaughtering perfectly decent songs.
4. Are you getting fed up of all the election preamble? Or are you one of the 6 per cent of people who think the campaigning is not only necessary, but desirable? But I’ve got bad news for you 94 per cent, I think we’ll be having another election within three months.
5. And finally, I’m delighted to say we’ve started writing our magazine to celebrate News Shopper’s 50th anniversary. As soon as we have a publication date I’ll let you know so you can order yourself a copy of this momentous publication.
