1000 children took part in a 2.62 mile Mini Marathon around Royal Greenwich Park last weekend to raise funds for Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice.
The event kicked off with a performance by the Rock Choir before a fun and energetic warm up from Greenwich Get Active, and the Mayor of Greenwich, Councillor Mick Hayes, waved an official London Marathon flag from the top of a fire engine to officially mark the start of the run.
“This was the third year of the Mini Marathon and the number of runners entering has made this our most successful event yet,” said Community Fundraiser Augusta Adu.
“It was wonderful to see so many children running in fancy dress and enjoying themselves. The best part for me was seeing the children’s faces as they crossed the finish line to receive their medals. We want to thank each and every one of our marvellous mini marathoners for their dedication, hard work and effort, and we look forward to seeing them all again in 2016! A big thank you also goes to our team of volunteers; without their support this event wouldn’t be possible.”
The 2015 Mini Marathon was sponsored by John Payne Estate Agents and the organising team expect to raise over £40,000 for Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice, enough to enable its doctors and nurses to provide specialist care to Hospice patients for one whole week.
