This is the adorably-named Snuffles Ester and she belongs to 14-year-old Amber Squires from West Wickham.
Amber fell head-over-heels for the little Pygmy Hedgehogs – about a quarter of the size of the ones in your garden – when her mum took her to the London Pet Show. She bought Snuffles from a dealer in Essex.
Amber said: “She is lots of fun, although quite shy towards strangers.
“She will only grow to about a quarter of the size of a wild hedgehog. Her quills are also lighter in colour than her wild relatives, but are just as prickly.
“She has to live indoors, in a large rabbit cage, where she plays throughout the evening and night on her wheel or with her cat toys.
“She is lactose intolerant so I must be careful when feeding her. Her favourite foods include boiled egg, plain chicken and meal worms, which she has as well as her main food, dried cat biscuits.
“My favourite thing about Snuffles is her cute little face and her funny, grumpy, snuffling noises she makes when she is playing with my Border Collie.”
