A former MP who appeared on our first ever front page has wished us a happy 50th birthday.
Eric Lubbock, now Lord Avebury, was Orpington MP back in 1965 and told us then by telegram: “I feel sure majority of residents and readers will join me in wishing News Shopper long and lasting success.”
Five decades later, the elected peer emailed us to say: “Amazing to think News Shopper has got to 50 and is still going strong!
“My good wishes, on the front page of its first edition, must have done some good.
“The Shopper was an important part of everybody’s week and it still is.
“We got local news, info, stuff about jobs, property and sport, and there it all is still today.”
MORE SHOPPER AT 50 NEWS:
He added: “I warmly congratulate News Shopper on providing an excellent service to my former constituents and wish the paper and its readers continuing success for the next 50 years.”
