A LIT candle is thought to have caused a fire which severely damaged a flat early this morning.
Firefighters from Eltham and Lee Green fire stations were called to the blaze at a flat in Marshbrooke Close, Kidbrooke, at 5.09am.
A smoke alarm had gone off, alerting a neighbour, who made an emergency call.
The fire began in the bedroom and is believed to have began after a candle set a TV alight.
A London Fire spokesman said: "Candles should never be left unattended and always placed on a flame retardant surface."
The fire was under control by 5.40am and is being investigated.
