A concerned mother is appealing to A2 commuters who may have witnessed a road rage attack on her daughter.

Katie Darby, 28, is “still shook up” after a middle-aged man repeatedly punched her car whilst she was stuck in rush hour traffic.

The man, in his 30s or 40s and driving a white, VW Polo with 62 registration plate, became irate when Ms Darby cut him up on a roundabout on Thursday March 19.

She raised her hand to apologise but she claims he followed her and tried to force her off the road on the London-bound A2 between the Darenth and Wilmington slip roads.

When traffic came to a standstill at 5.45pm, the man got out of his car and shouted abuse at the frightened Essex resident, who works in Dartford, whilst banging on her door.

Her mother Kay Cecil, of Leyton Cross Road in Wilmington, said: “It’s absolutely unacceptable.

“We all make errors and might have a go at somebody but to go out of your way to follow anybody, let alone a young woman, and to get out of your car.

“I dread to think what would have happened if she had not locked her doors and windows.

“He was acting so aggressively, we are sure that he would have done her harm.”

Ms Darby gave Kent Police the driver's full licence plate, but they will not take further action without a witness and the ladies are worried the driver may strike again.

Ms Cecil said: “The fact that he has acted so aggressively I can’t believe this is a one off.

“Someone else’s daughter, son or elderly parent might encounter him.

“The police paying him a visit may have made him not do it again.”

Ms Darby is having nightmares about the incident and is scared to drive the route, which she normally takes every Thursday to visit her mother.

Ms Cecil said: “She was quite nervous last night so I told her to take a different route.

“She’s got a bright green Volkswagen Beetle so she stands out.”

A Kent Police spokeswoman said: "Police received a report at 5.54pm on 19 March 2015 in relation to bad driving.

"It is alleged that a male driving a white car performed a dangerous manoeuvre after which it is said he got out of the car and banged on the window of the female driver of another vehicle.

"The incident was said to have occurred on the London-bound carriage way of the A2 in the Wilmington area.

"Witnesses are asked to contact police on 101 quoting 19*1047."

Last month, two Bexleyheath 18-year-olds were driven off the A2 in Dartford after they claim a 4x4 car went into the back of their Vauxhall Corsa, causing them to flip four times.
