Mums in Bromley were honoured at an inaugural award ceremony.

The Bromley Mums’ Awards, spearheaded by Allsorts Parent and Toddler Group and Bromley Brighter Beginnings, hailed the unsung heroes of people’s lives – their mums.

There were six categories in total, and a panel of judges including Chloe Gill, wife to ex-JLS star JB, picked the winners from numerous nominations.

The Community Mum award was presented to Eve Dixon, 37, from Beckenham, who fought for a new school in the area.

Vicky Holland, 37, from Keston, walked away with the Entrepreneurial Mum award for establishing and running Boppin Tots.

76-year-old Joan Read from West Wickham was bestowed the Inspiring Mum award, for overcoming adversity in her own life for her children and grandchildren.

MORE TOP STORIES The Mum’s Mum award was presented to Julie Perkins, 59, from Coney Hall, who supported her family after discovering they had the BRCA1 gene mutation, while battling cancer three times herself.

Claire Shaw, 39, from Bromley, won the Overcoming Mum award, for supporting other local mums after suffering the tragic loss of her daughter.

Last but not least 39-year-old Helena Reynolds picked up the Special Mum award for her dedicated parenting to three sons with autistic spectrum conditions, while being a single mum herself.

Sarah Hurst, Allsorts Toddler Group and event organiser, said: “Mums don’t expect or want thanks for what they do, but their stories need to be celebrated.

“As mums we often feel we are not doing enough, but the Bromley Mums’ Awards has given people a chance to affirm the mums they know that are doing an amazing job.”

Each winning parent won a £50 intu voucher at the event last Thursday (March 12) held at Bromley Town Church in Ethelbert Road.

Nominations, which were open for two months, closed on February 13.
