Will this year’s strawberry crop produce anything as outrageous as these two gems from previous years?
The first English strawberries of the year will appear on supermarket shelves this weekend after the sunniest winter in nearly 90 years.
Berries ripened in glasshouses in West Sussex will go on sale at Waitrose.
The earlier than expected strawberries arriving this month will be a specialist crop grown in glasshouses by just a few suppliers.
The main outdoor crop starts at the end of April or early May and usually continues until the weather cools in October.
MORE FUN STORIES YOU MIGHT ENJOY:
With supermarkets likely to weed out any imperfect and non-uniform fruit, we may have to rely on gardeners to come up with the funniest and most distinctive specimens.
Take this foot-shaped strawberry, for example, which was grown by Bexley gardener Tony Kemp.
But perhaps the best strawberry ever came in 2013 when Carole Collen grew one in Dartford that was shaped very much like a penis.
