Bromley Council chiefs have postponed a decision on the fate of Orpington Priory – home to the borough’s museum – for three months.
The executive met to consider huge cuts to its services in front of an audience of more than 100 residents on Wednesday evening.
The council had planned to put Orpington Priory up for sale later and move the museum exhibitions to Bromley Central Library.
Campaigners against the sale were met with a victory of sorts when Councillor Peter Morgan announced the decision would be deferred for three months.
The renewal and recreation portfolio holder said a further consultation would take place to consider:
• The best way to preserve the museum should it move to Bromley Central Library, including how existing staff and volunteers could be involved
• Alternative uses for Orpington Priory
• The benefits Orpington Priory has on the town centre
A report will be produced and considered by the executive in around June, this year.
More to follow.
