Teachers at four Lewisham schools are poised to go on strike tomorrow (Feb 12), claiming their schools may be turned into academies.
The action is set to affect Prendergast Hilly Fields, Ladywell Fields and Prendergast Vale, along with Sedgehill School where there has been an ongoing row over Lewisham Council's decision to remove its board.
Lewisham NUT said they had considered action at a fifth school - Bonus Pastor - but were now satisfied it will not be converting into an academy any time soon.
Secretary Martin Powell-Davies said: "This government introduced new rules that allow schools to convert into academies very quickly and without having to properly listen to the views of staff and parents.
"Once converted, you can’t change back. If politicians and governors are so confident that academies are the answer, why not put the decision to a full ballot of parents."
