A cheese-loving and formerly obese dog has halved his weight after being rescued from a shelter by a Sidcup woman.
Jack Russell cross Gromit spent six months at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home Brands Hatch in Crowhurst Lane, West Kingsdown, before Carrie Postans spotted him.
The 35-year-old fell in love with the Wensleydale addict while watching ITV show Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs in September last year.
She took Gromit back to her home in Sidcup High Street and started whipping him into shape.
At 14lb, he was twice as big as the recommended weight for Jack Russells so Ms Postans put him on a special diet devised by Battersea, including a cheese ban and three walks a day.
She said: "I fell in love with Gromit’s cheeky smile as soon as I saw him, but he definitely had to lose some weight.
"We stuck to Battersea’s diet plan and took him out for three walks a day, and now he is such a happy, energetic boy, always so excited to go out and play.
"Cheese is banned."
Rehoming and welfare manager at Battersea Brands Hatch Michelle Bevan said: "Being that overweight has the same health repercussions for dogs as for humans - it seriously impacts on their ability to enjoy life.
"It’s lovely to see Gromit looking so svelte and happy."
