Each week I use this space to share my five thoughts – the good, the bad and the ugly.
But I’m not selfish, so I’m also very happy to donate the space to guest writers to have their say. Write to me using the contact details below.
1. I felt okay on Monday, I really did. Good job I only found out later it was supposed to be the most miserable day of the year – Blue Monday. Then I heard the first Monday after new year was 'Divorce Day', but I assume no-one informed my wife and I’m therefore still married. I do wonder if we’re not too keen to label things. If a child is disruptive in class these days they’re not just playing up, instead they’re diagnosed with letters, ADHD, OCD, OD, ADD – OMG. The last acronym is mine by the way, so don’t re-diagnose your child.
2. I absolutely love the Sport England video aiming to get more women involved in sport, it’s spot on. Anyone offended by it is completely missing the point. And as for suggesting it’s demeaning to call women ‘girls’ this is just plain daft. I had a great night out with the boys on Saturday.
3. Have you noticed when it rains hard, the wind blows a bit or any snow falls we immediately get a weather warning? Now, I love weather forecasts, can’t get enough of them. But since when did I need a massive amber warning to know the wind might blow my fence panel down? We don’t need a warning every time.
4. If, as has been suggested this week, computer gaming is to be considered a sport, then I say we are all doomed. Proper sports have a ball, and it must be real, not an on-screen version.
5. And finally, please see the pictures and video of our latest drone flight. Thanks so much to Charlton FC for the invitation, much appreciated.
