Greenwich Council's cabinet look set to approve selling off Woolwich's covered market as part of a redevelopment plan.
The cabinet meets on December 17 to discuss a possible redevelopment of the site by Notting Hill Housing Group and St Modwen - whose proposals for the nearby Leegate Centre have caused much debate.
Plumstead Road's market is set to be developed as part of plans for Woolwich's Spray Street quarter.
Greenwich Council wants to see the area transformed with housing, a new covered market space, shops, cafes, restaurants and a cinema.
A spokesman said: "The Spray Street area of Woolwich Town Centre is a site of huge potential and is one that, with investment, can be renewed and regenerated into a vibrant part of the town centre.
"It is a key part of the master plan for Woolwich - the site is close to the new Crossrail station, close to the DLR and is close to where the new Woolwich Leisure Centre will be built."
