The six signs that define a foodie – do these describe you?
- Snubs chains restaurants in favour of independent eateries.
- Knows the best cuts of meat.
- Is open to trying anything on a menu.
- Can make wine recommendations for each meal.
- Knows the names of all the top chefs.
- Understands the processes behind creating differed dishes.
Four in ten adults define themselves as a foodie, while 55 per cent say food is one of the most important aspects of their lifestyle.
Knowing all the best restaurants in town is the biggest sign of someone being a foodie, say 43 per cent of people.
35 per cent say a foodie would confidently use terms such as terrine, carpaccio and prosciutto in a conversation about food.
Almost three in 10 say they would expect a foodie to know where their food comes from, as well as the nutrition content.
According to 15 per cent, a foodie would snub chain-diners in fear of a bad meal, choosing instead to support local, independent eateries. They would also have knowledge of ‘hidden gem’ restaurants and be able to recommend them off the top of their head.
