A hooded gunman shot at an Orpington dad twice as he reversed his car from his driveway with his two sons inside, witnesses say.
Emergency services were called to Kedleston Drive at 7.08pm on Friday after a man fired two shots through the driver-side window of the victim’s car.
Neighbour Liam Brophy, 63, drove the victim, who is in his 30s, to the Princess Royal University Hospital in Farnborough before an ambulance crew arrived.
Mr Brophy told News Shopper: “I was in the utility room at the back of my house with the door open when I heard two almighty bangs. It sounded like a gas explosion.
“It went off in very quick succession. I rushed out and my neighbour’s car was halfway across the driveway and he had been shot straight through the driver-side window.
“The shots had blown a hole in the window 10 to 12 inches in diameter. I’ve never heard a gun so loud.”
Mr Brophy said the victim, whose two young sons sat in the back of the car, managed to climb out and tried to ring an ambulance before neighbours came to his aid.
He added: “He was slumped against a bush. Blood was pouring everywhere and after about five minutes of waiting for the ambulance I got my car and took him to hospital.
“He was wearing a bomber jacket and he didn’t dare take it off. I was worried for his safety and wanted to get him to hospital very quickly.
“The doctors looked after him straight away. I’m just thankful he is OK.”
Ken Peachey, also of Kedleston Drive, said he was watching TV when he heard several loud bangs.
He said: “I looked out and the car in which the gentleman had been shot was still halfway across his driveway.
"A neighbour put him in his car and took him to hospital.”
A Met Police spokesman said the victim was treated for minor injuries and has since been discharged from hospital.
Police believe the victim was known to the suspect, a man wearing a grey hooded top.
No arrests have been made and no firearm has been recovered.
Detectives from the Trident gang crime command continue to investigate.
