A mother says her seven-year-old son was threatened with a blade by a classmate while attending a junior school in Belvedere.
The incident happened at Bedonwell Junior School on the afternoon of Friday November 28, during Year 3 reading class, and left a "disturbed" Lucas Munt afraid to go back to school.
An eight-year-old pupil at the Bedonwell Road school was found to have brought a detachable blade from a hand tool into class.
Lucas' mother Stephanie Munt told News Shopper: "It was during lesson time the child in question decided to pull a knife out.
"He made out like he was going to stab my son under the table and then he was waving the knife around.
"He was removed from the class and taken to the headteacher's office.
"Over the weekend my son was very disturbed. I went in and spoke to the head about how he had been.
"He said it was going to be dealt with and the child in question wouldn't be in class now.
"If he does come back to school I will take my child out of school because I don't know if it is going to happen again."
The 35-year-old added: "With regards to how the school dealt with it he was very swiftly removed, they dealt with it very well.
"What I would like to see happen is not to let the child back in the school.
"But I think it is not just the school that is responsible, the parent has to take responsibility."
The school did not comment on whether the boy would be allowed to continue attending the school.
Headteacher Ivor Gordo said: "No one was hurt and we took swift action to confiscate the item.
"After I had investigated the circumstances, I took firm action to prevent any recurrence.
"The welfare of our pupils and staff is my number one priority and I have invited an officer from our local Safer Neighbourhoods Policing Team to the school next week to give a talk on safety."
Police Constable Chris Molnar, a local neighbourhoods officer in the Lesnes Abbey ward, said: "We were recently contacted by a junior school in the Lesnes Abbey ward that informed us they had confiscated a bladed article from one of their pupils at school.
"As a result officers will be visiting the school this week and speaking to pupils, teachers and parents about the dangers and consequences of carrying knives or similar items.
"This sort of incident at a junior school is extremely rare but parents or anyone with concerns are welcome to contact us."
