No kidding! Two orphaned baby pygmy goats take residence in Petts Wood.

The adorable duo - named Batman and Poison Ivy - are just five days old after being born a week premature.

Sadly, their mum had been sick for about a week, and it was touch and go whether they would lose all three before the call was made for an emergency c-section.

The farm vet was reluctant to perform the operation in the dark with no electricity at the farm, so they were rushed to Allpets Veterinary Clinic in Station Square.

Performed by vet Fotis Kapsomidis and the team, the farm vet was relaying advice via the phone.

Despite recovering from the procedure, the mum developed toxemia and was put down two days later.

With mum belonging to veterinary nurse Michelle Keeley, who has a farm with goats, sheep and ponies in Halstead, she is now their sole carer.

She said: "They live with me but I have to bring them to work because they need two-hourly feeds.

"We don't usually see farm animals! But they made an exception because I'm staff and it was an emergency.

"We had to syringe feed in the beginning. They'll be able to go on the farm when they're about eight to 12 weeks."

Vet Mr Kapsomidis said: "We usually do cats and dogs, never goats before! I just remembered some things from vet school. It was quite exciting."

None of them were sure they were going to make it due to how sick the mum was.

Ms Keeley added: "We were there with hot water bottles and towels for hours and hours in the beginning."

The whole team is now attached to their new bundles of joy, and said the names came from Christmas inspired 'Ivy' and it all went from there.

They stressed that they do not normally see goats.
