A renowned sculpture artist is to stage his latest exhibition at a new cutting-edge gallery in north Greenwich.
Robert Orchardson, known for his sci-fi inspired 3D artwork, opens his Aperture installation – inspired by materials and scale - at NOW Gallery on January 30.
The exhibition will transform the gallery into an ‘exploded’ reflecting telescope, drawing from the areas strong ties to innovation and observation, and consists of a series of science-inspired sculptures and large scale photographs.
The artist said: "Greenwich is synonymous with a desire to look beyond an immediate place or time; somewhere from which to set out to sea or observe distant heavens. Aperture draws upon this rich heritage, exploring an impulse to comprehend that which is unknown."
Having only been opened in September, the gallery opposite North Greenwich tube station has already attracted the designers behind the E4 insignia and along with Orchardson.
It runs a selection of evening events called NOW Later, from 6pm to 9pm, with artists and performers including DJs, live music, dance, one-night only exhibits and installations, as well as films in its ‘boudoir’.
The gallery, which focuses on showing emerging and established London-based artists, is currently presenting Simon Heijdens’ clever Shade installation with a sensor that controls the appearance of the gallery windows, until December 12.
