A collection for Swanley food bank at Tesco in Sidcup saw more than four tonnes of food donated.
Around 16 volunteers helped with the drive, working in shifts across three days in which they encourage customers to donate 4.25 tonnes of food.
Shoppers were asked to buy an item from a specially selected list, including long-life milk, cereal, tinned foods, and tea and coffee before donating it at the end of their shop.
Swanley and District food bank staff then sorted the donations into emergency parcels containing three days’ supply of nutritionally-balanced food, which will be given to local men, women and children in crisis.
Following the collection on November 27 to 29, volunteer Carole Elliott-Smith said: "It was brilliant and the total was more than we got when we collected in the summer, which is really good.
"People’s generosity was great. The food bank is getting ready to be open for emergencies all over the Christmas period.
"We are doing hampers for people who need extra help these next few weeks."
